Dear Sarah Bryan. She was like a beautiful wild spirit of the hills and when her father died and the free open-air wild life of the hills was at an end she was obliged to go to service, and confined to the house and indoor work she seemed to languish and sicken and pine away, till at length she went to join the father whom she so loved. She left one child behind her, Marianne. Over the birth of the child let us draw a tender veil. 'De mortuis nil nisi bonum.'
